“ No frills, no fuss type of HK style eatery. Parking lot available for the free. Spacious seating inside. Came on a weekday night and ordered a couple of dishes. The beef chow fun was up to par, the fried beef ribs were crispy, the congee was standard! All of the dishes we got came out at a reasonable time and service was great with abundant refills. Would easily come back. Takeout for bigger parties was so easy. A whole tray of beef chow fun was ready in 15 minutes on a day where I thought I was going to make it myself. ”

“ Quick service, reasonable rates , can get very busy on weekends and dishes can take upto 20 Mins to arrive , due to the crowd. Ordered iced hong Kong tea, french toast , beef noodles ,tea yummy and to the point, so was the scrumptious French toast - you can add peanut butter for an extra dollar or so . The noodles took a while to come as I happened to order around the rush hour for a Sunday afternoon HK food by nature is bland , so noodles best enjoyed when hot , a little greasy but with crunchy bean sprouts a good balance of textures. Ambience is basic , nothing fancy but good things they have the seasonings and chillie oil at every table that helps. If any leftovers the staff packs it to go for you. Will visit again with some more homework on dishes to order as I saw adjoining ravens having very interest spaghetti dishes and mac and cheese ones ”

“ I've been here a couple of times, the first time I wasn't too impressed but today I decided to try the House Special Chow Mein and it was absolutely delicious. I added some chili oil for extra flavor and it was perfect. The portion sizes are HUGE and this would be a great place to eat family style. There is plenty of seating throughout the restaurant and it was pretty clean as well. There is plenty of waitstaff and they're all courteous. The water cups are a bit small but they're constantly stopping by to refill if needed. Overall a great restaurant to try if you're in the area! ”

“ Cantonese comfort food. I love coming here for a quick and easy meal when I am craving cafe dishes from Hong Kong/Guangdong. The beef chow fun dry style is one dish I almost always order here. Plenty of wok hei and flavored just right. Another favorite is the salty fish and chicken fried rice. I grew up eating this at various Chinese cafes throughout the country and this one is one of my favorite. The fried chicken is good too if you want an easy crowd pleaser. If you wanted dessert don't skip the HK French toast with peanut butter. It is definitely a delicious indulgence once in a while. ”

“ This place is located in the heart of china town. Parking wasn't an issue, but i could see it getting packed during peak hours. We ended up getting beef brisket chow fun, beef with fried egg and green onions and a condense milk French toast. Everything altogether was about 30 bucks or so, which is a great deal for the amount of food you get. Both dishes were great, but i liked the fried egg with beef a bit more than the beef brisket chow fun. i wish we got another order of the french toast... it was really delicious. The coolest thing about the interior of the restaurant, is that they have starbucks travel mugs from across the world. I personally collect starbucks mugs, so it was exciting to see another collection and the various mugs from different cities across the globe. For an asian restaurant, the service was pretty good. They came by a few times to fill water. But don't expect 5 star service. ”

“ This will be an interesting experience and review I had one night at House Bowls. For a few years now I have been making my trips to House of Bowls. But not as much as this year. Maybe I am addicted to it. I decided one night of where to eat by myself and after much contemplating, House Bowls was the spot. I arrive some time before 9:00 pm and was seated. But the one phrase the waitress told me would change my night. "We are closing at 9:30 and the kitchen is doing last call." Internally I was battling the thought of, "should I leave or can I eat within 30 min?" I took on the challenge for the night I ordered all these: Ovaltine, macaroni soup with ham, house special spaghetti, and a Hong Kong style French toast with peanut butter & condensed milk Would I say this is great to share since it was family style? Yes. Is it the best HK style French toast I know? Yup. But the main question: Did you finish all of this within 30 min before closing time? Absolutely. But it did not come without a cost. A moment I will never forget for the fastest complete meal I ever ate in my life. Overall, I would definitely recommend House of Bowls. It is one of the very few Cha chaan teng style cuisines I know in the city. I have also had the HK coffee milk tea and beef chow fun which are great. What did I learn? The food is great and so is the price The restaurant closes at 9:30 I will never EVER do that again but will I come back Without hesitation I am there for more. ”

“ Apart from both coasts and Canada (#1), Hong Kong style cafes aren't really much of a thing in any part of the country. Houston is fortunate to have at least a few dedicated places that fit the bill, but House of Bowls might be the most legit of them all. Known as 金大碗 ("Golden Big Bowl") to the locals, they have become one of the neighborhood's most frequented establishments where the food and service shine brightest. On their busiest days, parking can be a challenge. Sandwiched in a small'ish lot shared with several other popular businesses, House of Bowls doesn't have the luxury of parking spaces that the other neighboring plazas can offer, despite being the most spacious business in the building. They have a number of dedicated large tables and have a steady flow of patrons doing takeout or dining in. It's mainly a local crowd, which is always super promising. The menu for the place is extensive, with many of the dishes that are definitely cha chaan tang (茶餐廳) appropriate. The HK-style milk tea and lemon teas are near perfection and I am especially impressed with their condensed milk, peanut butter western toast (連奶花生醬西多士) and especially love that it's floating in syrup and melted butter. If anything, I wish it were larger but I guess that's as HK as it gets (#2). They offer a lot of the sai chaan (西餐) classics that include macaroni, baked rice, instant noodles, congee, egg tarts, and even chicken wings. The latter is one of their best sellers, with my favorite being their garlic salt and pepper wings. I don't even really love wings much but I am tearing it up each time I'm there. Their other super popular dishes are the house spaghetti, which is on the sweeter side and comes with a mosh of meats with a fried egg on top. Equally indulgent is their beef chow fun (乾炒牛河) but the added soft egg and shrimp is a real treat. The seafood here is good overall and it's an ideal environment for plate sharing and family style. If there was a downside to anything, it's the prices. Some of their shrimp/fish dishes are $20 each, even if the majority of the dish is noodle. The bright side is that their service is one of my favorite aspects of the experience. Most of the staff is super multilingual, speaking Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, and English with customers. I've been very impressed with all of them and their smile-first, friendly attitudes. I do think this is one of the best spots in all of Bellaire Chinatown. Some folks might not find the HK-fare-laden menu all that impressive, but all things considered, I think this is the best place for it in H-town. __________ (#1) And obviously, Hong Kong.
